The Holidays should be a time of love and fellowship, and that doesn’t just apply to people, but to our four legged friends as well. (And the ones with two legs, some wings, or no legs at all, or maybe a bunch of legs!)
Animals and pets deserve to be cared for. That’s why we’re proud to help out the Greater Moncton SPCA. They were formed in 1955 by a group of concerned citizens here in Moncton and were led by one Mrs. Constance Hoover. I’ve never met Mrs. Hoover but she sounds like my kind of classy lady! These fine folk believed something should be done about the stay animals and animal cruelty in the area, and their first shelter was opened in 1956 by the Premiere of New Brunswick. The shelter itself was built by Mrs. Hoover and her mother, and with the help of friends they ran it themselves for years until the ability to hire staff became an option. The Shelter in now known as The Hoover Animal Shelter in honour of Mrs. Hoover’s years of dedication.
The Greater Moncton SPCA now has the task of providing a service under the Animal Protection Act which is not duplicated by any other agency in the Greater Moncton area. The Society provides care for sick, injured, homeless, lost and unwanted animals.
Recently we were able to donate of guitar to be signed by Supertramp Rock and Roller Roger Hogdson for The
Greater Moncton SPCA to be auction off next year in support of the Shelter.
